Friendship and Tea go hand-in-hand

Today is a very special day… Happy birthday to my amazing friend, Olive 🙂

There is nothing I don’t love about my special friend!

I treasure the endless hours we spend together chatting, debating, analysing, relaxing, pilaty-ing, laughing, crying and partying.

After work I popped over to say happy birthday and of course enjoy some delicious birthday pastries with real tea the way Granny Hazel likes it 😉

But this tea party was just a rehearsal for what is to come next Sunday..

Eeek I am excited! Can’t wait for the birthday celebrations to continue on this weekend 😀

Besides birthday fever, today is also Wednesday which means only one thing in this blogging world

Peas and CrayonsBreaky was enjoyed in the sun, oats with chia seeds and honey.

Recess was an orange and lunch was a tuna salad and a banana.

After tea at Liv, I headed to gym for an amazing Body Pump class. I came home to a delicious wholemeal vegetarian pizza made by my mum. So good!

Now time to relax and unwind… Lemongrass tea, snacks and family time on the couch 😀

But just before we part, do you have any good books to recommend? I am totally over 50 shades for now.

Oh, and  on the topic of birthdays, what’s a special gift-experience you have given or received?

Happy Wednesday, friends!

Quality Sister Time!

As Wednesday tradition has it, it is time for WIAW.. Thanks Jenn from Peas and Crayons for hosting this! I love sharing some of my days eats and sneaking a peak into how others fuel their active bodies! Great opportunity to get creative food ideas and new recipes 🙂

Peas and Crayons

My morning began with one of my breaky staples.. Multigrain sourdough toast with peanut butter, honey, banana and today I added chia seeds.  They add a nice textural element to the already amazing dish 😉
I did a bit of research on these chia seeds and found that they are sourced from South America, are high in fibre are are the highest known plant source of Omega-3. I don’t like getting caught up with fancy so called ‘super foods’ but since they were floating about my kitchen, their presence this morning was welcome 🙂

Recess was a deliciously juice green pear and lunch in the staffroom was a tuna salad with (unpictured) corn thins and avocado.

After school I headed to Josh’s granny for a happy birthday tea.  Josh’s gran is such a joyful, bubbly and fun lady and always brightens up the room she is in.  I hope one-day I will be as youthful in mind and spirit as she is!

I then spent the rest of the afternoon chilling out with my sister. Tea, fruit and our cliff walk was on the agenda.

We enjoyed a beautiful sunset!

And then came home and got ready for a sisterly date night, as we hadn’t spent enough of the afternoon together 😛

We decided to head to Misschu, a Vietnamese restaurant in Bondi.

We shared English spinach & tofu steamed dumplings

and egg omelet, avocado & balsamic caramelised onion fresh vietnamese rice paper rolls. So good!

We went back for a second serving of the dumplings.. delicious!

Have you ever eaten Vietnamese food? If so, what do you order??

Now couch and Olympics time 🙂 Tomorrow I will be doing a post on suggestions for pre-race fuelling.

But let’s get the ball rolling early… how do you fuel your body before your race?

Thanks Nasko for the post request 😀 Happy Wednesday, friends!

Pump it up Wednesday

Peas and Crayons

Thanks Jenn from Peas and Crayons for hosting What I Ate Wednesday! Always a good time to reflect on the day and share food and fitness experiences with fellow bloggers and readers.

My day began with breaky and the newspaper. Peanut butter and banana on soy linseed toast. Never ever disappoints!

Recess snack was a Chobani yoghurt… blueberry is officially my all time favourite flavour.

Followed by a homemade tuna salad for lunch

with a slide of delicious wholemeal, seeded rye bread which one of the lovely ladies in the staffroom brought in today. Freshly baked bread is just the best.

Dinner was salmon, sweet potato chips and a delicious green salad. This was my first time trying sweet potato chips and they were amazing! Highly recommend.

Dinner was served with a side of hot chilli sauce, which makes the perfect dipping sauce. Check out my tips on creating quick and easy dinner meals!

Todays workout was at the gym.  Here I am all geared up with my running toys and new Adidas head phones, which fit perfectly around my relatively larger ears (Thanks Josh :))

Did a quick 2km run on the treadmill before heading to a Body Pump Class.

It has been a while since my last BP class, so today was challenging but it felt good to be back. Body Pump is a weights based resistance training class, which works all the different muscle groups.

After class shot, thanks Steph 😉What a great day!

Now it is time for tea, something sweet and Masterchef finale!!

What is your best way to unwind after a long day?

Pilates in the Sun

What a sunny Saturday we have had in Sydney today.. It is starting to feel like Summer is just around the corner 🙂

This morning my ‘private pilates instructor’ aka Liv,  invited me over for pilates and lunch. What do you think I said? YES! The studio was set up outside, under the trees and in the sun, with a good playlist guiding us through. We began with ab work, progressed into leg work and then arms and ended with some whole body stretching.

Here are some snaps of some of my favourite exercises with some helpful hints if you decide to try them out!

Criss cross – Lying in neutral table top position, hands under the head and elbows out to the side. Inhale to prepare, exhale to curl up.

Inhale to prepare, exhale to rotate opposite armpit to opposite thigh, while the other leg extends. Return and swap sides.

Side Plank – Supporting hand is inline with the shoulder. Legs and hips are stacked on top of eachother.Lift your pelvis away from the mat, with your body in a nice long line. Remeber to engage your core and allow your abs to support you from underneath.  Hold, embrace the intensity, smile and swap sides.

Lunges – The important part of ensuring a good lunch lunge is to make sure that when bent, both legs form nice right angles from the knee to the thigh. We did about 15 on each side.

After an awesome session; abs, arms and legs burning and shaking it was time for lunch!

Liv whipped us up orange and carrot juice whilst I got working on a tuna salad.

Nice. colourful, nutritious and satisfying!

With puppy eyes staring up at us..

What a beautiful afternoon.

Happy Saturday!
